If your skin suffers from acne, scars, sun-damage, wrinkles, pigment flaws or just lost its glow, then acid treatment, also known as chemical peeling may be the treatment you are looking for.
What is Chemical peeling?
Chemical peeling is a treatment of your skin with a chemical mixture. It may sound dangerous, but do not be intimidated. Medical peeling is an in-depth treatment that works by replacing several of the skin layers, leaving the skin tightened, and with a new glow. Medical peels also help to form fresh skin cells, promoting the skin’s ability to renew itself.
Which treatment should I choose?
The clinic you choose will perform an analysis of your skin, and assess what type of peeling you need. There are several different types of acid treatments, so we are going to make a follow-up guide that covers the different types of acid treatments.
The treatment itself
When the peeling is applied to the skin, you may experience itching, tingling, or a burning sensation. Treatments take approx. 30 minutes. It should not hurt and no sedation is needed.
After treatment
In the weeks after treatment, the skin may be red, burning, and itchy. Typically, you experience that the skin peels in the first week. It is important that the skin peels off naturally and that you do not peel the flakes off yourself.
Some simply experience fine and smooth skin, while others may experience itching, redness, and burning.
To help with the burning sensation and redness, the skin is lubricated with certain moisturizers (you get them / or can buy them from your therapist). In addition, remember to protect your skin from the sun for the next 10 days. You need to apply a minimum of sun factor 15-50.
